Collection: Block prints

A collection of block prints from different parts of India. We have primarily showcased block prints from four states - Andhra pradesh (Peddana Kalamkari), Gujarat(Ajrakh), Madhya Pradesh (Bagh, Nandana), Rajasthan (Bagru, Dabu, Udaipur, Pharad).

Though the method of creation is quite similar, stylistically, these prints are very different from one another. With Kalamkari featuring completely filled in coloured blocks, Bagh prints featuring detailed floral and fauna (in larger blocks) and Bagru its characteristic small repeated iconography, they create a rich fabric, taking into account local colours and themes.

Of course, modern block printing artisans frequently combine these styles to create new, gorgeous patterns filled with a range of motifs and colours derived from new age materials. We have also featured these, with the spirit of the classic art combining with a modern sensibility.
