Dhakai Jamdani is a fine muslin fabric that is traditionally woven in Bangladesh. The word Dhakai comes from Dhaka city, which had many weaving centers in the past.Jamdani is a Persian word that comes from the words jam meaning flower and dani meaning vase, which refers to the floral motifs that are originally found on these sarees

Jamdani was originally known as Dhakai (Daccai) named after the city of Dhaka (Dacca), one of many ancient textile weaving centers in Bengal region. Under the Mughal Empire the Persian term Jamdani came to be in popular use, since it was the court language of the Mughals.

Dhakai Jamdani is known for its delicate texture, unique design, and thread work. It is believed to be a combination of ancient cloth-making techniques from Bengal and the muslins produced by Bengali Muslims since the 14th century. The sarees are usually made of lightweight, translucent cotton that hugs the body and features handcrafted floral motifs. UNESCO has declared the art of weaving Dhakai Jamdani to be an "Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity".
